For expert guidance on prepping your concrete surface before applying a sealer coat, refer to our how-to steps below.
For your safety, please wear protective clothing, eye goggles and acid-resistant rubber gloves and footwear.
Step 1
Remove loose or peeling paint by sanding with a medium grit sandpaper or wire-brushing the surface. If necessary, de-gloss any glossy surfaces by scuff-sanding or using a chemical de-glosser.
Wipe off any oil or grease spills from the concrete surface. Scrape and sweep away loose contaminants. Even if your concrete is in good condition or if you are sealing pavers or natural stone, you still must clean the surface.
Step 2
Once the loose paint and contaminants have been removed from the surface, use a masonry and concrete degreaser and cleaner to thoroughly clean and degrease the surface.
Step 3
Use a plastic watering can to evenly distribute the product onto the surface. Work the Degreaser and Cleaner into the surface using a stiff bristled, non-metal brush or broom. Allow the product to stand for 10-20 minutes then vigorously scrub the concrete surface. DO NOT allow the surface to dry.
Step 4
Thoroughly rinse the concrete surface with fresh water while scrubbing at the same time to properly remove remaining residue. Pressure wash for best results.
Step 5
Using a non-metal squeegee or mop, remove the excess water from the entire project area. Prevent all rinse solution from entering the storm drains. Once the cleaned surface has dried completely, the surface is ready for the sealer topcoat.
